LINDSBORG, Kan. - After a slow first three quarters for both sides, the Threshers' offense exploded in the fourth quarter for three touchdowns as Bethel beat Bethany 27-3.
Following a scoreless first quarter, both teams found the scoreboard with field goals in the second quarter heading into the intermission tied 3-3.
Carson Sauseda broke the tie with just over six and a half minutes left in the third quarter with his second field goal of the afternoon.
Leading 6-0 entering the fourth quarter, the Bethel offense found something that clicked as
Ben Schmidt threw for 97 yards and three touchdowns in the quarter.Â
Schmidt's first touchdown was a 32 yard connection with
Trevon Madison. Their second touchdown was set up by a Kad Miller interception deep in Swede territory that gave the Threshers first and goal from the five. Schmidt connected with Kenyan McMillan from five yards out. Ben's third passing touchdown of the frame was a 28 yard connection with Madison once again.
Schmidt, taking over for an injured
DJ Ciers, threw for nearly 300 yards in the victory, the most passing yards by a Thresher in nearly a decade.
Madison reeled in 7 catches for 139 yards and two touchdowns.
Tate Seabolt led the Thresher defense with 19 tackles, 4 solo and 2 for a loss.
Bethel will be back in action on Saturday November 11th as they take on the No. 10 ranked Evangel Valor in Springfield, Mo. with kick-off scheduled for 1:00 PM.
