Softball drops a pair of one-run games to Avila in Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Bethel College Softball team dropped a pair of one-run ball games to Avila on Tuesday afternoon falling 8-7 in game one and 3-2 in game two.
 
GAME 1, L 8-7
 
The Threshers took the lead in the top of the first with a Marissa Harrison RBI single. The Eagles answered with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead. Avila added three more runs in the second inning to push their lead to 6-1 after two complete. Bethel was able to cut the lead by two in the third inning when Ella Caudill hit a two-RBI double to left center field. Following another Eagle run in the bottom half of the third, Bethel trailed 7-3. Neither team scratched across another run until the fifth inning when Caudill drove in her third run of the contest with a sac fly and Karlie Stephens had an RBI single. Trailing by just two runs entering the final two innings, Bethel relied on the heart of their lineup to tie the contest. Dakota Piovesan came through clutch for the Threshers with a two-run homerun tying the contest in the top of the sixth inning. Avila took the lead in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI single. Bethel was able to get a runner to second base in the final frame but was unable to manufacture a run as they dropped the one-run ballgame.

Just like the first game, the Threshers struck first in the top half of the opening frame with another Harrison RBI single. After the Eagles answered back with a run of their own in the bottom half of the first to tie the game, Bethel took the lead in the third inning with a Piovesan RBI single. Neither team scored for the next two innings. Avila tied the contest with a run in the bottom half of the sixth inning before walking the game off in the seventh.

The Threshers will be back in action on Saturday, April 1st for a doubleheader against the York Panthers at Allen Wedel Field with first pitch slated for 1:00 PM.
