Softball splits with York on Alumni Day

NORTH NEWTON, Kan. - The Bethel College Softball team beat York in game one with a score of 3-1 and dropped game two to the Panthers 8-4.

GAME 1, W 3-1

The first batter of the game for the Panthers reached on an error and eventually came around to score their lone run of the contest. Following a leadoff single from Cynae Wiley, Amber Mott drove her in with a one-out triple to tie the contest in the bottom of the opening frame. Mott was brought in by Marissa Harrison, who hit a single. The Threshers got their second triple of the game in the bottom half of the second inning from the bat of Claire Broxterman. Karlie Stephens stepped up the plate next and drove in Broxterman with a single putting Bethel up 3-1 after two innings. Neither team score the rest of the contest as both pitchers settled down and through complete games.

GAME 2, L 8-4

Runs came in pairs in game two as there were four innings in the game where two runs were scored. The Panthers struck first once again, this time in the second inning as they scratched across two runs. Bethel responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the third with an RBI triple from Brianna Reeves and an RBI single from Mott. York used a two RBI double to take the lead back in the top of the fourth inning. The Threshers responded in the bottom half to tie the contest at four when Catherine Carter took advantage of a pinch hit opportunity with hit a two RBI single up the middle. York scored a run in the top of the fifth inning to take the lead back before tacking on three more in the 7th. The Threshers were unable to get anything going in the bottom half of the 7th as they tried to stretch the game. The Threshers had eight different players record a hit in the loss.

The Threshers will be back in action on Wednesday, April 5th as they travel North to take on the McPherson Bulldogs at Bulldog Park with first pitch set for 2:00 PM.
