Softball drops two to McPherson, including extra innings thriller in game two

McPHERSON, Kan. - The Bethel College Softball team continued KCAC play as they took on the McPherson College Bulldogs on the road. The Threshers dropped game one 9-1, before falling 9-8 in extra innings in game two.
 
GAME 1, L 9-1
 
The Bulldogs struck first with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Two innings later, McPherson more than doubled their lead as they pushed three runs across in the third inning. The Threshers got on the board with an RBI single from Claire Broxterman that scored Taylor Sanfillippo in the fourth. However, McPherson got the run right back putting up another in the bottom of the fourth. The Bulldogs scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to activate the run rule ending the contest. Bethel stranded six runners on base in the loss.

McPherson once again struck first as they were able to push across a run in the bottom half of the first inning. The Threshers answered right back with a solo shot from the bat of Dakota Piovesan in the top of the 3rd. Bethel added another run in the top of the third when Sanfillippo doubled to left field scoring Cynae Wiley. After the Bulldogs took a 3-2 with two runs in the same inning, the Threshers put a crooked number on the scoreboard in the fifth. Following a walk, a popout and a single, Brianna Reeves smacked a double to center field scoring Emma Hershberger. Wiley scored on a passed ball from the Bulldog catcher allowing Reeves to get to third base. Sanfillippo then ripped a double of her own to left center scoring Reeves. McPherson rallied for two runs in the bottom half of the sixth, all with two outs. After neither team scored in the 7th, Bethel came up and scored three runs before recording an out as they put together four straight hits. Harrison recorded an RBI, while Piovesan had the other 2. The Bulldogs came out in the bottom half of the inning and put up four runs to take the contest in extra innings.

The Threshers will be back in action on Saturday, April 8th as they travel to Wichita, Kan. to take on the Friends Falcons with the doubleheader starting at 1:00 PM.
