KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Coming off of their first loss of the season, the Bethel College football team jumped out to a large first half lead as they cruised to a 42-26 victory.
The only score of the opening 15 minutes of play was a
Kayden Christiansen 3-yard touchdown run. Chrisitansen's run capped off a 7 play 70 yard opening drive for the Threshers.Â
Bethel's offense exploded in the second quarter as they scored four touchdowns. Junior quarterback
DJ Ciers ran in two of the Threshers' second quarter touchdowns, one from a yard out and the second from 14-yards away. Ciers connected with
Tucker Smith for a 40-yard touchdown pass and
Trevon Madison for a 25-yard touchdown pass just before the half.Â
The Eagles scored a touchdown in the second quarter as well, missing the extra point to give BC the 35-6 halftime lead.
Both teams went scoreless in the third quarter, the Eagles scored the first points of the second half on the first play of the fourth quarter to cut Bethel's lead down to 35-14 with a successful two-point conversion.Â
Kade Miller intercepted an Eagle pass off the back of the wide receiver and returned it 44 yards for his second pick six of the season to score Bethel's lone second half points.Â
Avila scored two more touchdowns, not converting on their extra point attempts to cut the Threshers' lead down to 42-26, the eventual final score.
The Threshers amassed 405 yards of total offense, 264 on the ground and 141 through the air.Â
Ciers was 8 of 9 through the air for 141 yards and two touchdowns. He added in 124 more yards on the ground and two more touchdowns.
Both Smith and Madison caught three passes for 60+ yards.
The Threshers were led in tackles by
Tate Seabolt who finished with 8 total tackles. The Bethel defense forced three fumbles, recovering two.
Bethel will be back at Thresher Stadium next Saturday, September 23rd as they host RV Kansas Wesleyan for a 6:00 PM kickoff.
