Madelaine Debs

Game Recap: Softball |

Debs sets strikeout record as Softball is doomed by errors

NORTH NEWTON, Kan. - In just her second career appearance, Madelaine Debs has already etched her name in the Bethel College Softball record books as she finished the game one loss to Hastings with 13 strikeouts. The Threshers followed up the 3-0 game one loss with a 16-8 game two loss.

The freshman hurler dazzled as she scattered three hits across her first six innings of work while walking just one Bronco. All three of the runs Debs gave up came in the seventh inning where she gave up three more hits while the Threshers committed a crucial error in right field that allowed the games first run to score.

Bethel had plenty of opportunities to give Debs the lead throughout the contest as they stranded six runners, including the bases loaded in the second inning and two in the fifth.

Game two saw Hastings jump on Bethel early as errors once again proved costly for the Threshers. The first two batters of the game both reached on errors before coming around to score on a three RBI triple from the Bronco's cleanup hitter.

Hastings scored another run in the second inning before exploding for five again in the third.

Bethel answered back in the bottom half of the third with an RBI from Taylor Sanfilippo that scored Gracie Higgins.

After Hastings scored another run in the fourth, Bethel put up a crooked number of their own in the fifth inning as they scored four runs on three hits and a Bronco error.

The Threshers put up another crooked number in the sixth inning, scoring three runs on three hits.

Holding on to a four run lead, Hastings doubled their lead in the seventh inning before sitting the Threshers down in order.

Claire Broxterman - 4 for 7, R, RBI
Meehlia Mendiola - 3 for 5, 2 RBI, R

The Threshers will be back in action Saturday, February 24th at 11 AM as they host the Doane Tigers for a pair of contests.
