NORTH NEWTON, Kan. - The Bethel College softball team continued to struggle defensively as they dropped game one to Doane 9-6 before falling in game two 7-5.
After giving up two runs in the top of the first inning of game one, freshman
Cassie Albin drove in
Madelaine Debs for her first RBI in a Bethel uniform.Â
Following another pair of Tiger runs, the Threshers exploded for five runs in the third inning as freshman
Anniston Oylear picked up her first RBI in gray and maroon by driving in
Meehlia Mendiola and
Anna Northcutt. Just one batter later,
Dakota Piovesan drove in Albin and
Taylor Sanfillippo, giving BC the 6-4 lead.
Neither team scored again until the top of the sixth inning when Doane scored five runs on three hits and three errors, while leaving the bases loaded. Bethel got a runner on in the bottom of the sixth inning, but were sat down in order in the seventh dropping the opener.
Game two once again saw the Tigers strike first in the top of the opening frame as they pushed across a run. Ashley Bodine drove in Albin in the bottom half of the inning to even the contest right back up.Â
Doane took the lead back in the top of the fifth inning with a 3-2 two out three run homerun to left field. The Threshers showed their resilience by manufacturing four runs in the bottom half, taking their first lead of the contest.
Needing to record six outs without giving up a run, the Threshers allowed the Tigers to score two in the sixth and one in the seventh while being shut out as they fell in game two 7-5.Â
Bethel will be back in action as they travel to Kansas City to take on Kansas City Christian on Tuesday, February 27th at 2:00 and 4:00 PM.
