Softball splits with York to begin conference play

YORK, Neb. - After dropping the first contest 2-0, the Bethel College softball team split the day with an 8-2 extra inning game two victory.

The Panthers manufactured two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to break the scoreless tie. Both teams finished with 5 hits in the contest, Dakota Piovesan recorded the only multi-hit performance for the Threshers as she finished 2 for 3.

Bethel stranded eight runners on base through the seven inning contest.

The Threshers struck first in game two as Katie Meiries and Marissa Harrison both picked up an RBI in the top of the fourth inning. The Panthers struck back in the bottom half with a solo homerun.

Bethel held onto a one run lead for the next two and a half innings until the Panthers needed a run to extend the contest. Following a two out walk, the Threshers committed two errors that allowed York to tie the contest and force extra innings.

The first six Threshers to come to the plate in the extra frame reached bases safely as Piovesan walked, Ashleigh Bodine doubled to left field, Taylor Sanfillippo walked, Claire Broxterman was hit by a pitch, Harrison doubled to center field and Meiries singled to right field. Bodine had an RBI, Broxterman had an RBI, Harrison had two RBI, Meiries had an RBI and Alexis Enslinger had an RBI on a groundout.

Harrison finished 2 for 3 to lead the Thresher offense. Caudill joined Harrison with a multi-hit game as she finished 2 for 4.

Bethel will be back in action on Saturday March 16th at 1:00 and 3:00 PM as they take on the Friends Falcons in Wichita, Kan.
