NORTH NEWTON, Kan. - Freshman hurler
Madelaine Debs broke her own record that was set previously this season as she recorded 14 strikeouts in a 1-0 game one victory before Bethel fell 5-4 in game two.
Debs had her A game from first pitch as she struck out six of the first seven batters she faced, walking the other.
With
Ella Caudill on second base, Debs came to the plate where she would help herself out by driving a ball up the middle that would bring Caudill all the way around, putting BC up 1-0.Â
The Thresher defense held the Coyotes hitless into the sixth inning as Bethel was able to escape runners in scoring position in both of the final two frames as they held on for the one run victory.
Game two saw Kansas Wesleyan jump out to a 1-0 lead in the first as they strung together back-to-back doubles to start the contest.
After Meeliah Mendiola got things going for Bethel with a leadoff walk,
Dakota Piovesan drove her in with a single up the middle tying the contest.
The Threshers took their first lead of the contest as Caudill reached with a one out single before
Ashleigh Bodine drove her in with a two out single.
After settling in following her first inning, Emily DeMartino gave the Threshers three more solid innings as she gave up just two hits after the first inning.
Jesse McMichael followed that up with 1.1 innings giving up a run on one hit and one walk.
Following the Coyotes loading the bases in the top of the sixth inning, Bethel put Debs in the contest where she would give up a sacrifice fly before walking a batter and striking out another.Â
Bodine singled to start the sixth inning off for Bethel. Following a strikeout, Debs once again helped herself out, this time with the long ball as she hit her first homerun at Allen Wedel Field into the bleachers in left field.Â
Leading 4-2, all the Threshers needed to do was record three outs without giving up two or more runs. The Coyotes strung together three straight singles to start the inning as they pushed one run across.
With the bases loaded and two outs, the KWU seven hole hitter came through with a two RBI double to take the 5-4 advantage.Â
After the first two batters of the seventh were sat down for Bethel, Piovesan kept the inning alive with a single down the left field line before Bodine flew out to end the contest.
The Threshers will be back in action on Saturday, March 30th at 1:00 PM for a doubleheader with the Ottawa Braves in Ottawa, Kan.
