OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Bethel College softball team closed out the Hosea Bell Red Dirt Classic with a 4-1 loss to No. 9 Oklahoma City before beating Southwestern Assemblies of God 5-2.

The Stars struck first in Bethel's first game of the day as they manufactured a run in the top of the third inning.
Â
After Oklahoma City put up another run in the top of the fourth inning before the Threshers answered with a run of their own.
Meehlia Mendiola started things with a leadoff single before being advanced to second by
Claire Broxterman and third by a throwing error from the OCU catcher.
Â
Ashleigh Bodine would drive in Mendiola with a single to right center before the Threshers hit into an inning-ending double play to eliminate the threat.
Â
The Threshers were able to get out of a jam in the sixth inning, but not before the Stars put two more runs on the board before stranding three runners on base.

Bethel got two runners on in the bottom of the seventh but could not bring them around to score as they dropped their first game of the weekend.
Â
Mendiola and Bodine recorded all four of the Threshers' hits in the contest with two apiece.

Southwestern Assemblies of God struck first as they scored two runs on a single.

Bethel answered back in the fourth inning with
Taylor Sanfillippo RBI double before
Dakota Piovesan smacked a two-RBI single to center field.

Leading 3-2, the Threshers added to their lead in the sixth inning as Sanfillippo hit her second double of the contest bringing in
Cassie Albin.Â

Bethel added one more run in the seventh inning as
Ashlyn Rushing grounded out scoring
Ella Caudill on an error by the SAGU first baseman.

Madelaine Debs threw 7 innings giving up 7 hits, 2 earned runs while striking out 7 and walking 3.
Â
Albin, Bodine and Sanfillippo each finished 2 for 3 and accounted for four of Bethel's 5 runs scored.

Bethel will be back in action on Saturday, March 9th as they host Kansas Christian College with the first pitch scheduled for 3:00 PM.
