NORTH NEWTON, Kan. - The Bethel College softball team dropped both games of their doubleheader with the Avila Eagles on Saturday afternoon.
GAME ONE, L 7-4
After getting help from her defense, including a diving double play for
Taylor Sanfillippo,
Madelaine Debs helped herself out in the bottom half of the first inning as she hit a two-run homerun to left field, her third of the season. With runs in each of the next two innings, the Eagles tied the contest before Sanfillippo drove in a run of her own with an RBI single. Avila answered right back with three runs of their own taking the 5-4 advantage. Both teams scored a run in the fifth and Avila pushed another across in the sixth to take game one.

GAME TWO, L 5-4
After falling behind 3-0 following the first inning, the Threshers slowly chipped away at the Eagle lead.
Morgan Marsh, pinch running for Sanfillippo, scored on an Avila wild pitch for Bethel's first run in the second inning. In the third, Sanfillippo recorded a sacrifice fly to left field before
Ashlyn Rushing smashed a two-out two-RBI triple to right center to put Bethel on top. The Eagles answered back two innings later with the games final two runs as they held off the Threshers' push in the sixth and the seventh.

The Threshers will be back in action on Tuesday, April 23rd for their final contests of the KCAC regular season as they host Tabor for Senior Night with first pitch scheduled for 5:00 PM.
