NORTH NEWTON, Kan. - The Bethel College softball team won game one 1-0 over Bethany before dropping game two 8-2.
GAME ONE W 1-0
The lone run in game one came in the second inning as
Anniston Oylear drove in
Marissa Harrison after she got things rolling with a one-out double. Harrison was moved around with a single from
Madelaine Debs before being driven in. The one run would be all the Threshers would need as Debs was strong in the circle with help from her defense. The freshman hurler allowed just four baserunners in the game giving up three hits and walking another while striking out four Swedes.
Ella Caudill - 2 for 3
Anniston Oylear - 1 for 2, RBI
Anna Northcutt - 1 for 2, R
Madelaine Debs - 7.0 IP, 3 H, BB, 4 SO, 0 R
GAME TWO L 8-2
All of the action in game two came in two innings as the Swedes jumped on the Threshers early with six runs in the opening frame. The Threshers starter in the circle,
Emily Demartino, lasted just one third of an inning before giving way to
Gracie Higgins who held the Swedes scoreless until the sixth inning. After Bethany added two more runs in the sixth inning, Bethel got on the board when
Ella Caudill stole third and the Swede second baseman threw the ball in the dugout giving Caudill the extra base. Later in the sixth inning Higgins singled to left field scoring Haley Welsh giving the Threshers their second run. Bethel stranded six runners in the loss.
Ella Caudill - 2 for 4, R
Gracie Higgins - 2 for 3, 6.2 IP, 9 H, 2 R, BB, SO
The Threshers will be back in action on Saturday, April 13th as they travel for the final time this season to take on the Southwestern Moundbuilders with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 PM.
