Softball Splits with Central Christian

McPHERSON, Kan. — Bethel softball split Tuesday's doubleheader with Central Christian, taking the opener in convincing fashion before coming up just short in a late rally in game two.

Game One: Bethel 6, Central Christian 1

The Threshers wasted no time setting the tone.

Bethel pushed two runs across in the first inning and followed with a four-run second to grab a 6-0 lead they would never surrender. Kaylee Linnebur drove in two runs as part of a three-hit performance, while Sadie Jensen added two hits and an RBI of her own. Alohilani Mundon chipped in two hits, and Ashley Poe collected a pair as Bethel finished with 12 hits on the afternoon.

Emma Killingsworth was sharp in the circle, tossing a complete game. She allowed just five hits and one unearned run while striking out six. Central Christian's only run came in the sixth inning, but the Threshers stayed in control throughout.

Bethel took advantage of four Tiger errors and played steady defense behind Killingsworth to secure the win.

Game Two: Central Christian 7, Bethel 6

The nightcap told a very different story.

After three scoreless innings, Central Christian broke through with four runs in the third and added three more in the fourth to build a 7-0 advantage.

Bethel didn't fold.

The Threshers erupted for five runs in the sixth inning to swing momentum. Emma Figueroa sparked the rally with an RBI double, and Mundon delivered a two-run double to pull Bethel within two. In the seventh, Kenzi Young drove in another run to make it 7-6, putting the tying run in scoring position.

But Central Christian was able to escape with the final out, handing Bethel a narrow one-run loss.

Young finished with three hits in the game, while Figueroa added two hits and scored twice as the Threshers tallied 11 hits in the contest.
