NORTH NEWTON, Kan. — In a high-stakes Monday afternoon showdown, the Bethel College women's tennis team delivered a decisive 6-1 victory over McPherson College. Going into the match, McPherson boasted an undefeated record, but the Threshers controlled the courts to hand the Bulldogs their first loss of the season.
With the victory, Bethel remains firmly in the hunt for the conference crown, sitting just one game back from Oklahoma Wesleyan University (OKWU) in the standings.

The Threshers secured the early momentum by claiming the doubles point. The top pairing of Daniela Casique and Sara Ladino dominated at #1 doubles, capturing a 6-2 win over McPherson's Taimi Nashiku and Bella Ellerbee. Grace Dawes and Kate Rowland secured the doubles point for Bethel with a 6-3 victory at the #3 flight over Maria Luisa de Lama and Eva Lesteluhu. McPherson claimed their lone doubles win at the #2 spot, where Laureen Van Drunen and Vanessa Hofer defeated Ximena Raya and Patty Huerta.
Transitioning to singles play, Bethel's depth was on full display as they won five of the six flights. Grace Dawes cruised to a straight-sets victory at #4 singles against Laureen Van Drunen , and Jireh Gonzalez matched that energy with a swift win over Eva Lesteluhu at the #6 spot.
At #3 singles, Ximena Raya took down Bella Ellerbee , while Daniela Casique battled to defeat Vanessa Hofer at the #2 flight. Patty Huerta rounded out the Bethel scoring with a hard-fought win over Maria Luisa de Lama at #5 singles. McPherson's sole point of the match came at #1 singles, where Taimi Nashiku defeated Sara Ladino.
Conference Title Picture
The Threshers now look ahead to the final stretch of the regular season, trailing OKWU by just one game. Fortunately for Bethel, OKWU still has a tough remaining matchup against the newly defeated McPherson squad.
Bethel has two matches left on the schedule but only one left to play. The Threshers will host the Friends University Falcons this Thursday at home. Their final regular-season match on Saturday against Ottawa University has already been decided as a forfeit victory for Bethel, due to Ottawa forfeiting their season.
