NORTH NEWTON, Kan. - The Bethel College Women's Tennis team picked up a 4-3 win over RV McPherson at Ward Tennis Center. Their first win over the Bulldogs in ten years, nearly to the day (April 8, 2013).
Bethel started off by picking up the doubles point behind victories at #2 and #3 doubles. After
Daniela Herrera and
Fatima Nemi dropped a 6-1 match in #1 doubles,
Nalea Payton and
Patricia Huerta won at #3 doubles 7-5 to put the pressure on the #2 match.
Halle Krehbiel and
Grace Dawes played a tight match with everyone at Ward Tennis Center watching. The duo picked up the tiebreak victory 7-6(8-6) putting Bethel up 1-0 going into singles play.
Herrera picked up a three set victory at #1 singles 6-4,2-6, 6-3. Nemi fell in two straight sets 6-0, 6-1. After dropping her first set 6-4, Krehbiel forced a third set by winning 6-3 before eventually falling 6-2. Payton won in straight sets at #4 singles 6-4, 6-2.
Jenna Mahoney fell in two sets 6-2, 6-4. With the match tied 3-3, the game came down to #6 singles. Huerta picked up the victory with a pair of 6-1 victories sealing the victory for Bethel.
The Threshers will be back in action on April 13th as they take on the Bethany Swedes after their match against Saint Mary was canceled with them not having enough girls to field a team this season.
