North Newton, Kan. - The Bethel College women's tennis team delivered a strong performance Saturday, defeating Avila University 7-0.
The Threshers set the tone early in doubles play. The duo of Charis Yager and Patty Huerta controlled the No. 1 doubles match, earning a 6-1 victory to put Bethel in front and establish momentum for the rest of the afternoon.
Bethel carried that momentum into singles competition, where the Threshers dominated the top of the lineup. Kate Rowland secured a convincing win at No. 1 singles, defeating Avila's Emma Koenigseder 6-0, 6-1. At No. 2 singles, Camila Lopez followed with another decisive result, winning 6-1, 6-0. All other matches went to Bethel by way of default.
With the result, Bethel completed the 7-0 sweep.
The Threshers will return to the court today at 1:00 PM at the Ward Tennis Center, where they will host No. 20 ranked William Woods.
