ROME, Ga. - With Daniela Herrera's first place finish in the ITA Regional Qualifier two weeks ago in Maize, Kan. she qualified for the three day ITA Cup in Rome, Ga. on October 13th, 14th and 15th.

Herrera's first competition came against the #1 overall seed Violet Apisah from Keiser University. After trailing 3-0, Herrera rallied back into the contest scoring two straight games to make the score 3-2. From this point, Apisah took control as she outscored Herrera 3-1 to take the first set.  Herrera dropped the second set 6-0 to fall to the eventual champion 6-3, 6-0.

Her second match came against Holy Cross' Victoria Savvides. Herrera took the opening set 6-4 after a back and forth match ended with Daniela winning two straight games. In the second set, Herrera fell behind early, but rallied to tie the contest 3-3. Unfortunately for the sophomore, she gave up the next three games to drop the second set 6-3. The third set started out with each player alternating winning games until the 3-3 mark when Savvides won back-to-back games. Daniela got a game back to make the match 5-4, but was unable to even out the score as she fell in the third set 6-4.

On Saturday, Herrera faced off with Valentina Urelli from Menlo College. Daniela dropped the opening set 6-4 before falling in the second set 6-2 as she came out on the wrong side of the score for the third time at the national competition.

Daniela and the rest of the Threshers will be back in action on Feb. 8th as they take on Emporia State in Emporia, Kan. at 3:00 PM.
