Box Score NORTH NEWTON, Kan. - The Bethel College Women's Tennis team opened up their 2022-23 campaign by hosting the Concordia Bulldogs at Ward Tennis Center. The Threshers, playing without their top player, picked up the 4-3 victory thanks to some singles heroics.
The doubles pairing of Patty Huerta and
Charis Yager picked up the lone doubles victory for Bethel 6-3.Â
After falling behind 1-0 the Threshers were able to tie the contest 1-1 when
Jenna Mahoney picked up a victory in #3 singles via opponent retirement. Mahoney had won her first set 6-4 and was leading 1-0 in the second when her opponent retired.
Fatima Nemi was the next Thresher to finish, she fell in two straight sets 6-4, 6-1.
Halle Krehbiel, at #2 singles, finished next losting 6-1, 7-5.
Trailing 3-1 Bethel needed their bottom of the lineup to come up big and they did just that.
Nalea Payton won in two straight sets, including a second set tiebreaker, 6-2, 7-6(7-3). Patty Huerta won in dominant fashion at #5 singles with a 6-1, 6-2 victory.
Emma Evans had the chance to win the match for the Threshers at #6 singles. She did just that as she picked up a pair of 7-5 set victories.
The Threshers will be back on the court on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 23rd and 24th as they participate in the KCAC Individual Championships hosted by Southwestern College in Winfield, Kan.
