Eric was a member of the 1984 Bethel College football team that won the KCAC Championship with a record of nine wins and no losses.  The 1984 team finished with a record of 9-1 and was ranked third in the nation in NAIA Division II.  From 1982 to 1985, he was a four-year starter for the Threshers on defense, where he recorded 289 tackles, 12 tackles for losses, 11 quarterback sacks, and four fumble recoveries.  During the seasons that Eric played, the Threshers compiled a 25-12 record.  Eric set school records with 20 career interceptions and three interceptions in one game (vs. Kansas Wesleyan in 1985).  Eric earned All-KCAC Honorable Mention honors his freshman year, and was voted to the All-KCAC First Team his final three seasons of competition.  He was named an Honorable Mention NAIA All-American and Second Team NAIA Academic All-American in 1984, and a Second Team NAIA All-American and First Team NAIA Academic All-American in 1985.  Eric graduated from Bethel in 1986 with a degree in Chemistry, and was inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame in 1992.
