Susan played varsity women's tennis for Bethel College from 1985 to 1989 earning four athletic letters.  Susan compiled a 142-43 (singles and doubles) career record.  She won three KCAC Championships at number one singles in 1986, 1987, and 1988 and two KCAC Championships at number one doubles in 1986 and 1988.  Susan won one NAIA District 10 Championship at number one singles in 1988.  She was a member of two KCAC Championship Teams in 1987 and 1988.  Both teams finished conference play undefeated in dual match play.  The 1988 team also placed first at the NAIA District 10 Championships, earning the Threshers' first trip to NAIA Nationals. Susan is the Bethel College all-time leader in matches played at number one singles (91) and number one doubles (87).   She remains the only Thresher player to win two matches in both singles and doubles at the NAIA National Championships doing so in 1989.  Susan was a three time unanimous selection on the All-KCAC First Team, a three time selection to the Academic All-KCAC Team, and a two time NAIA All-American Scholar Athlete.  She graduated from Bethel in 1989 with degrees in Mathematics and Physics and is also a member of the Thresher Tennis Hall of Fame.
